I'm one day away from finishing my road trip, but I've got a few more posts about my time before I transition out of #RoadTrip2k16. Now, this isn't exactly about my time in San Francisco, but here's some stuff I wrote while I was there. Maybe it was visiting City Lights books, or the BART rides, but I found myself writing a lot of poetry & I want to share a bit of it here! Thanks for reading!
FINALLY I'm getting around to posting about the San Juan Islands. If you're not familiar, they're this gorgeous archipelago in northwest Washington, very much a retreat from the mainland. To get a sense for what it was like, on the morning ferry I took to get to Orcas Island, there was a thick fog off the shore of the mainland. But after about 20 minutes, the boat passed through the fog, and it felt like we had crossed onto another side.
will i fall like up the stairs?
sweat caught between plastic headphones
& eardrums weary of you
sure of my own two feet,
before reaching the top
the steps probably grew an inch or so &
you & i lean, cold white walls
together, on the precipice
that is the afternoon before commencement
on the linoleum floor of our alma mater
listening to each other
gold star, pink triangle
what do you plan to do, i ask
you plan to construct, you say
there is work to be done.
How come nobody told me how much work it would be to set up a website?! It's finally up & running but I'm also up and tired and running out of steam. Currently eating some m&m's to keep my stamina up. This isn't going to be a very interesting post unless you like to sadistically watch someone try to virtually hold themselves accountable to do something that will be good for them.
